Whisper his name in any circle around The Bay and people remember his poetic delivery. Jonah Melvon kicks off the new year with a brand new album.
Rain Water Project is now available on all major music outlets.
Jonah Melvon flips styles on the microphone like a classic MC. This LP packs dope lyrics on top of monumental beats. Oakland can indeed be proud of the album released by Jonah Melvon.
We caught up with Jovan recently and he was able to break off a few moments to get up with Hts You Love Radio.
What is your music background?
I grew up in a household of high level music artists, so I denied my own creative gene til I went off to college. Gospel, anything classic Motown, to Hip-Hop and Pop was celebrated in my home. I had no real formal training, but I found my voice attending open mics.
Who are your musical influences?
If you mean from a creative standpoint, I love the classics of Sade, Frankie Beverly and Maze, to the more modern music of Musiq Soulchild, Daniel Ceasar, BlackStar, and Saba
What are your long-term career goals?
I would love to win a Grammy as an artists or as a ghost writer. I also would love to play on “Tiny Desk.” One of my passions is to influence black culture specifically, to move from a different narative than what’s being programmed.
I am also passionate about creating sustainability for artists as a whole. I live in the Bay Area where the Tech boom is ever so present, and people are being displaced from their homes frequently. I use my music as a platform to help bring awareness and hopefully influence solutions.
My good friend and super star producer Nabeyin, helped me to produce this record. I am also fortunate to perform with so many great musicians in the Bay Area, of which they also gifted me with their musicianship on this record.
My hat is off to my squad that helped me from this record life.
