Keepcoolalive Entertainment artist Joshquiat is from Calera, AL. He kicked off his recording career laying down tracks with his uncle. Originally, he went by the stage name Supercool. However, he is now better known as Joshquiat.

His first single “Calera” hit the airwaves in October 2018 and he has not looked back. He has goals that include providing an outlet for the youth in his community. Currently, he plans to remain an independent artist and he has a release party scheduled for the near future.

We caught up with Joshquiat not too long ago. He was kind enough to take time from his busy schedule to answer a few questions for Hits You Love Radio.

What is your music background?

My background in music is all grass roots. My uncle turned a walk in closet into a recording studio in 1998…we were recording on a 24track mixer trying to find our sound rapping about any and everything. I went on to put some projects under the stage name Supercool. Now it’s Joshquiat.

Who are your musical influences?

My influences are almost everything…Ice Cube was my 1st favorite rapper. I own every tape he put out. Tupac, Biggie,Do or Die,Wu Tang,AZ… Lupe Fiasco…Kid Cudi and the whole underground surge of Houston in the early 2000’s.

What are your long-term career goals?

Long term goals of mine are to provide a outlet for the youth in my community our resources are slim to none…so getting your music out from where were from is a major thing in its own.

What type of recording process do you use and who produced your recording?

My recording process is very intense because I don’t write lyrics down until the song is recorded. I’ll rehearse how I want the song to go listening to the beat on repeat until I’m satisfied and ready to record it. My production comes from all over the world…King Payday…Whyzoo…Jay Trisanu and a host of more independent producers.

Do you ever get the chance to perform live?

I’m having an album release party soon for my upcoming project. A lot of promoters here aren’t interested in the longevity of music and more so about the revenue so we host all our own events.

Are you looking for to remain independent or to get a major label deal?

I started my label Keepcoolalive Entertainment LLC in 2016. I would love more than anything to remain Independent and putting my art on a major playing field organically.

If anything, what would you change about the music industry today?

If I could change anything in music it would probably be the perception of success…get it back to what people were saying was more important than views.

Do you have any advice for up-and-coming artists?

My advice to artist is DO IT YOURSELF. Any aspect of your art you can control. Control.

Anything else you want to say on the people?

Thank you for having me and Keepcoolalive!
