Get up on the new jam “Fly to You” by Gogo Vagena on Spotify. This artist looks to conquer the world as he touches as many souls as possible. He believes promoting one’s self as an independent artist can be a difficult finical task.
We caught up with Gogo Vagena recently. He was nice enough to answer a few questions for Hits You Love Radio.
What is your music background?
I was a member of my school’s choir and took part in a small town festival as a student at age 12.
My parents both had good voices but no one in the family were professional singers
Who are your musical influences?
Apart from Greek great singers of my country like Stelios Kazantzidis, Marinella, Alexiou, Poly Panou, Demis Roussos, as a child I used to love and admire Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston,Michael Jackson, Freddie Mercury. I believe they played a big part as to who I would like to be like if I were ever to become a great artist.
What are your long-term career goals?
I would like to go worldwide and “touch” as many souls as possible with my voice and “conquer” the world
What type of recording process do you use and who produced your recording?
We recorded at AvetStudio, a studio owned by my friend Avet Kizirian who wrote the music for “Fly to you”. He is responsible for all arrangements, mixing and mastering
Do you ever get the chance to perform live?
Occasionally yes. But I crave to do it more often, to be totally honest
Are you looking for to remain independent or to get a major label deal?
Being able to really stand out and promote yourself and your work needs a whole lot of money and I’m afraid I ain’t no millionaire, at least not yet. So in terms of having the means to properly promote myself, being independent is a real hard task. So if a major label was to believe in me and invest on me and my work then “Yes” that would be a huge step forward,I believe, and of course I would embrace it.
If anything, what would you change about the music industry today?
This is a hard one. I don’t feel I am the most appropriate person to answer because I don’t feel as if I am part of the music industry, not yet at least. I am a humble indie.
Do you have any advice for up-and-coming artists?
My advice would be work hard and believe in yourself and your vision! Work on yourself to be the best you can and constantly improve. Being an artist is hard but can turn out to be liberating also. And who knows, one day you could be compensated for all your hard work and diligence.
Anything else you want to say on the people?
Trying your best at what you believe in is really worthwhile and is what makes our life more beautiful and meaningful as well. My love to you all!
