Written by Staff Writer on August 31, 2020
“Love Elastic” is the current single by Van Hechter. This jam enjoys its second consecutivr week in the Top 10 on the Hits You Love Top 40 Pop Chart.
Van Hechter gets his Pop/Soul influence from artists like The Supremes, David Bowie, and Cameo.
He enjoys Indie success, but will not turn down an offer from a major label.
His current release has spent two weeks in the Top 10. It shows no sign of slowing down momentum.
We recently caught up with Van Hechter. He was nice enough to take from his busy schedule to chat with Hits You Love Radio.
What is your music background?
I was fortunate enough to have a mother who ADORED pop culture. She knew about Soul, Jazz, Motown, and Disco. Then she explained Punk and New Wave. Also, I studied opera for like 2 minutes and then a punk band recruited me.
Who are your musical influences?
Giorgio Moroder, The Ink Spots, Bowie, Cameo, The Supremes, Hot Chocolate, Gershwin, The Sex Pistols, Depeche Mode, Martha and the Vandellas…
What are your long-term career goals?
To stay in music, through thick or thin, for as long as I can. Because NOTHING makes me happier than constructing a song…
We own a studio, Eryck Wyseman and I. He’s been my associate, good friend and producer for 5 years now. We work very organically. I come in after we’ve mapped out the track. We usually know exactly how we want to sound. But sometimes while recording vocals, I’ll come up with on-the-spot ideas and we record those too.
Do you ever get the chance to perform live?
Of course, and that for me is the whipped cream on the sundae. Unfortunately, this year 30 Europe gigs were postponed as well as 8 trips to NYC. COVID sucks! So far, New York City is my favorite city to perform. I have a good fan base there. Somehow, the audiences and I ”click.”
Are you looking to remain independent or would you prefer a major label deal?
I’d go with a major label. It all depends on the terms.
If anything, what would you change about the music industry today?
I’m not one to complain. I guess I’d say, “Give power back to radio and club DJ’s. They used to make or break a song. That was nice.
Do you have any advice for up-and-coming artists?
Never EVER give up!
Anything else you want to say on the people?
Yes! Being rejected, being an underdog, or an outcast is always ultimately a positive. Use it. Don’t wallow in rejection. Turn it into something magical.
